As I have mentioned before, we spent this summer growing our own vegetables and soft fruits. Some worked out better than others; strawberries were a disaster as the kids kept picking them too soon and our daft dog ate the ripe ones, but we have managed to grow massive, humongous marrows!
The one I picked today is over 3kg (we do not know the weight as our kitchen scales don’t go higher than 3kg), 16 inches long and 21 inches wide. Here is a picture of it, against a stuffed Postman Pat for scale.
Talking about stuffed things….I have spent the last month stuffing marrows, plus making marrow and ginger jam (nicer than it sounds) and I have even made a chocolate and marrow cake (OK, but I’ve had better).
